Before you choose

CD or cassette: start with the memory.

Choose a CD player frame for a memory tied to discs, or a cassette player frame for one tied to tapes. Then compare the arrangement, frame options and personal details on each listing.

01 / The disc format

Vintage CD player frames

Standard CD player frames use an 11-inch frame. Available finishes are shown on each listing.

A different setting: the Panasonic SL-S230 has a fixed acrylic case and walnut base, with a fixed size and finish.

Vintage cassette player frames

An 8-inch frame is included, with 9-, 10- and 11-inch upgrades. Finish choices and their prices are shown on each product page.

Compare the composition: look at how the player, controls and personal details are arranged in the WM-EX610 and WM-EX77 references.

What do I need for audio playback?

Plan for USB-C power and an external speaker. These pieces do not have built-in speakers.

  1. Power the player. Use a USB-C cable and a power adapter.
  2. Connect a speaker. Connect the 3.5mm audio output to an external speaker with an audio cable.

Cables, a power adapter and external speakers are not included. Bluetooth is an optional add-on; review the options on your chosen listing.

For the WM-EX610, the cassette is also not included. Check the specific listing for the included items and player condition.

Not a checklist

There is a difference between displaying something old and giving it a place in your life again. This is a short story about the distance between the two.

01

The starting point

Begin with the object.

The WM-EX1 is not a backdrop. Its clear cassette shell, small controls, and familiar proportions are the details that make the memory specific.

02

Material & proportion

Let its character lead.

The composition takes its cue from the player itself: material, scale, and the quiet space around it. Nothing needs to compete with what made you stop and look.

03

Words & memory

Give it a personal context.

A name, a date, or a few chosen words can make the object point to one person or one moment. The detail stays small, so the memory has room to speak.

04

The final setting

Place it where it stays.

The finished piece belongs in the everyday landscape of a room: somewhere it can be noticed again, instead of disappearing into a drawer.
